To continue our look at European versions of Japanese cartoons, this week we'll take a look at something special that our pal Mike brought us back from Amsterdam. And even though it's pretty trippy, you can't smoke it.

It's Battle Of The Planets! Or STRIJD DER PLANETEN, as they say in the Netherlands. No, it's not "Gatchaman". It's "Battle Of The Planets", complete with name changes, Planet Spectra, 7-Zark-7, and silly "beedle-boop" noises instead of dialog.

These comics are redrawn versions of BOTP episodes, complete with acrobatic whirlwind ninja manuevers. Ken - sorry, "Mark" - doesn't seem too happy to have his head between the legs of a such a groovy chick. That's because Ken, er, "Mark", is ALL BUSINESS.

What episode of Battle Of The Planets would be complete without a poorly-animated American segment to replace the Japanese footage of defenestrations and neck breakings? Notice how the Dutch cartoonists deliberately render this panel in ugly, unconvincing strokes to show their disapproval of such ham-fisted reimagining. Or maybe they're just lazy and untalented.

Keyop and Princess share a moment.

It wouldn't be BOTP without the insane burblings Jinpei - er, "Keyop" is given instead of meaningful sentences. Joe - er, "Jason" is, as always, driven to fits of homicidal violence at being partnered with this barely intelligible pre-teen. Don't blame him, myself.
